Murder Mystery with a Happy Ending

Unraveling the mystery

I have figured out who killed Dr. Peterson. You see, I met him a few years back when he treated my wounds from the car accident that killed my wife. He knew I hated seagulls, and he used that knowledge to lead me to his murderer. He knew he was going to be murdered so he constructed a series of clues for me to follow. That's what the boardgame "Clue" that we found in his storage cabinet symbolizes. He understood that I'd recognize it. Relying on my prejudice of seagulls, he knew I'd try and kill one if I had the chance. This is why he constructed a box full of 100 seagulls near the powerplant out in Morgan Hill and set a timer for the box to open at 8:00 PM last night. Given that my shift ends at 7:30 and I take Monterey Road to go home, I was sure to see it and stop by. That is when I discovered Dr. Peterson's labwork being loaded in trucks and departed. These were going to be turned into viruses that would be distributed in mass quantities in heavily populated areas.
I remember him once telling me that "monkeys hold the key to life, but humans hold the key to death." He must have known that these people were going to do this, and that the monkeys in the PETA labs were the only things that could stop them. That is why I went to the labs and found yet another clue, this time in the form of a bottle opener that was placed inside a monkey's cage. He wanted me to use that bottle opener to crack open the case he stored there with some of his posessions inside. That is where I found the picture of Dr. Flykemeyer eating dinner with Dr. Peterson and you, Ms. Jamison. Since we are the only four main characters in this plot I am led to believe that Dr. Flykemeyer murdered Dr. Peterson after he discovered the ill intentions with the labwork. Why Dr. Peterson decided to leave me well thought out clues instead of writing me a letter saying:

Dear Detective Dick,

Dr. Flykemeyer wants to spread a deadly disease across the globe. Please stop him before he kills me and goes through with the plan. His lab is off Monterey Road.

Thanks a bunch!
Dr. Peterson pHD

is beyond me, but at least we cracked the case. I could be wrong about this whole thing, however, in which case we'd all die very shortly, but that wouldn't make for a satisfying movie.
